The Jiffy Knee™ is a total knee replacement performed with a muscle- and tendon-sparing technique. Rather than cutting through the muscles and tendons around the knee, the surgeon uses specialized instruments to move them aside, opening only the skin and joint capsule. You receive the same durable knee implant through a smaller incision with less soft-tissue disruption.
A traditional total knee replacement typically requires a 10–12 inch incision and cutting through muscle and tendon. The Jiffy Knee™ uses a smaller 4–6 inch incision and spares that supporting tissue. The implant and the goal are the same — the difference is the approach used to place it, which is designed to make recovery more comfortable.
Many people with knee arthritis or chronic knee pain who would otherwise need a knee replacement may be candidates. The best way to find out is a consultation with Dr. Peterson, who will review your history, imaging, and goals to recommend the right option for you.
Because the muscles and tendons are preserved, many patients stand and take their first steps the same day and return to daily activities sooner than with a traditional approach. Recovery is different for everyone — Dr. Peterson will discuss what to expect based on your individual situation. Results vary.
